Mara shoots him a look of pure loathing.

"And you can end with how I have a blaster and you don't." She makes a point of resting a hand on hers, sitting at her hip, but doesn't draw. "Or how I don't care what happens to the two of you either way. If it was up to me, you'd already be back with the Alliance and I'd be significantly richer."

This may or may not be true. Since it's not up to her, she isn't about to do anything that could endanger Karrde's plans, whatever they end up being. And the fact that she's a smuggler, not a bounty hunter, could say something about how much bounties really interest her. But they don't have to know that.

"Karrde doesn't make decisions without weighing all his options, so I'd get comfy if I were you."

River laughs quietly under her breath in a way that Simon does not want to interpret before settling back to watch them. Like it's a show. Also something Simon doesn't want to spend much time considering.

"If we're being completely honest," drawled slowly as he crosses his arms and leans against the wall, "then I have to say I'm not entirely comfortable being watched by someone too stupid to have their wounds properly dressed."

It doesn't matter what she may be. If their last encounter with the feds is any indication, whoever turns them in isn't going to see a fraction of a credit. Still, Simon doesn't like seeing wounds he can't treat. There's just something about it that doesn't sit right with him.

Mara seems to consider saying something to that.

Instead, she turns to River like they're the only two people in the room. "Is your brother always looking to get himself blasted, or am I just special?"

She's curious.

Oh, this is going well. Simon looks mildly offended (he has heard much worse about his predilection for pissing people off) but maintains his well balanced stance that makes him look even more out of place than he is.

His sister takes Mara's question under very serious consideration, looking up at the ceiling as if calculating (the number of times Simon has been shot against the number of times he has actually managed to get shot for real, the average number of times he's been in a room full of people where more than half had wanted to shoot him) and then sighs as she settles her gaze on her brother.

"He has many talents."

Maybe it's a little bit of both? By River's estimates, Simon is especially skilled at making girls want to shoot him. Usually with the intent to aim for southern regions.

Mara Jade actually cracks a smile. It's short-lived and she'll probably blast anyone who points it out (looking at you Simon), but it happens.

"He must take so much looking after."

Simon only barely manages to hold back a strangled and bitter Hey! as River nods sagely in Mara's direction.

Okay, time to get back to the more pressing matter at hand. He fidgets, readjusting the cross of his arms before abandoning the posture and putting one hand on his hip so the other is free to gesture at Mara's arm.

"I'm a doctor. If you won't go get it treated at least let me make sure it won't get infected."
